About SpottyLabs
Know what you're putting on your skin.
We use skincare every day, for years and sometimes decades. SpottyLabs exists to understand what all that repeated exposure actually means for us.
Our vision
To understand the long-term impact of everything we put on our skin.
Why we exist
We rarely think about the bigger picture: what does repeated exposure to thousands of ingredients mean over the long term?
Today, we make skincare easier to understand by analysing ingredients, products, scientific evidence and regulatory information. We look past marketing claims to what is actually inside.
We want a future where you can look at your whole routine and understand what each product does today, and what using it for years could mean. Some effects are obvious. Others are subtle, cumulative, or still poorly understood.
We want to make the invisible visible.
What we don't do
We don't tell you what to buy, and we don't sort ingredients into "good" and "bad".
We give you the knowledge and the tools to understand your exposure, recognise potential risks and make better-informed decisions about what you use every day.
Who we are
A small, independent team. Our combined backgrounds cover the full path from raw data to a decision you can act on.
Mathematics
Scoring models that are consistent, transparent and hard to game.
Statistics
Reading the evidence for what it really shows, uncertainty included.
Nutrition
How substances enter the body, and why dose and exposure matter.
Medical sciences
Toxicology, dermatology and the clinical literature behind each rating.
Humanitarian work
Years turning complex evidence into clear guidance for people who need it.
How we work
Benefit and risk, separately
Every ingredient is rated on two independent axes, so a great active can't hide a real concern.
Serious hazards stand out
Substances regulators classify as carcinogenic, hormone-disrupting or toxic to reproduction are flagged on their own, never averaged away.
Fully independent
No brand pays us to rate, rank or feature its products. Scores come only from what's on the label.
Because your skincare shouldn't be a mystery.
