Sorbitan laurate is an emulsifier and surfactant derived from sorbitol (a sugar alcohol) and lauric acid (a fatty acid). In cosmetic formulations, it helps to blend oil and water components that would otherwise separate, creating stable and smooth products. It can also act as a mild cleansing agent.
